Notes on updates to the site and its listings
Table of Contents
May 9, 2026
Removed The Lucky Tiki (West Hollywood) from the primary listings. It now resides as a secondary listing & within the Tiki Bars of Los Angeles quest.
April 25, 2026
Downgraded Vermonica to an ‘Honorable Mention’ with plans to add it to a future ‘Public Art’ quest or similar presentation.
April 20, 2026
Downgraded Bowlium Lanes to an ‘Honorable Mention’ due to combination of distance outside of central Los Angeles and that the primary draw is the exterior architecture. Certainly worth a visit for those interested in Googie architecture, but too far to recommend the casual visitor to make the trek.

Added Map Marker Highlight
When hovering over a destination’s listing in the Map’s sidebar (on Desktop view), the corresponding marker on the map receives a change in styling & animation to better inform the user where within the map (and city) that destination resides.
Curious LA Logo updated
The logotype for Curious Los Angeles has been modified with visual refinements to optically adjust the width of the “L” characters – resulting in a more cohesive display.

Added New ‘Show Extras’ Option
Now the primary Map view includes an optional toggle to “Show Extras.” This toggle displays all of the secondary destinations in the Curious LA database – those that do not qualify for inclusion in the curated guide, but that exist in ancillary experiences (namely, within the Quests). This way, visitors can ensure that they are seeing everything that might interest them in a specific areas (especially when paired with the ‘Nearby’ location-based display).

Rebuilt Primary Map View (Desktop)
Heavily modified the Map page to focus primarily on the map view (over the standard site structure of the header, navigation, etc.). Although this view change may be jarring to the casual visitor, it affords a greater use of the map itself (which is the point of this site).
Introduced a new “Discover” feature at the top of destination details sidebar on the Map page. This keeps a rotating view of three randomly-selected destinations presented on each load rather than the same, alphabetically first destination appearing each time.
Improved Events Page Speed
Greatly increased the page loading speed on the Events page and refined the code handling for continued automated retiring of ‘past’ events.

Mobile experience overhaul
We’ve made a broad set of interface and usability improvements across the site, with a major focus on mobile. The layout is now cleaner and easier to navigate, especially on smaller screens.
Thumb-friendly filters
Filtering on mobile has been redesigned. Filters now live in a slide-up drawer from the bottom of the screen, making them much easier to reach and use while browsing.
New “Nearby” discovery
You can now see what destinations are worth visiting around your current location with the new Nearby feature. Wherever you are in the city, nearby spots are just a tap away.
Map, List, or Grid views
Mobile browsing now supports Map, List, and Grid views so you can explore destinations in whichever format suits you best.
Performance improvements
We’ve rolled out several performance upgrades to make the site faster and more responsive. Additional optimization work will continue as the platform stabilizes.
More photos across listings
We’re continuing to add photography to destination listings. Several locations received new images over the past few weeks, with more being added regularly.

Beta Launch – Initial Testing Phase
We’ve opened the first beta version of the site for early testing, feedback, and review ahead of the official public launch.
The core site structure is now in place, along with an initial set of 151 destinations. In addition, 30+ more destinations appear within various Quests currently available on the site.
This release is not intended for general public use yet. Instead, it’s designed to help us gather feedback and conduct broader user testing with a larger portion of the community.
All current destination pages include their initial round of content. However, many details may evolve as posts continue to be refined and expanded. At this stage, most descriptions are based on compiled information from multiple available sources.
A number of posts are still missing photos and other supporting media, which will be added over time as the content library grows.
What we’re focusing on during this beta:
- Feedback on site structure and navigation
- Clarity and usefulness of destination pages
- Identifying missing information or inaccuracies
- Gathering suggestions for future improvements
More updates will follow as we continue improving the experience ahead of the public release.
